Our story
A family market, run the way we shop ourselves
Bagdad Market started with a simple idea. Families in Sterling Heights should not have to drive across Metro Detroit for halal meat cut properly, for bread that tastes like home, or for a shawarma sandwich that is made when you order it.
So we built the market around three counters. An oven that bakes Iraqi samoon through the day. A halal meat counter where you can ask for a cut by the name of the dish. And a hot food counter where the shawarma turns on the spit and the kabob goes on real charcoal.
Everything else fills the shelves in between. Rice by the sack, olive oil by the tin, herbs by the bunch, and the spices, pickles and sweets that make an Iraqi kitchen work. We stock what our own families cook with.
We are a family business and you will usually find one of us at the counter. We speak Arabic and English, we know most customers by name, and we would rather tell you what is fresh today than sell you something that is not.
If we would not bring it home to our own table, it is not on our shelves.
- 01
Fresh over fancy
Bread comes out of the oven in batches all day. Meat is cut when you ask. Nothing sits under a lamp.
- 02
Fair prices
We price for the families who shop with us every week, not for a special occasion.
- 03
Halal, without asterisks
Every item at the meat counter and everything we cook is halal. That is not a section of the store. It is the whole store.

Neighbors first
We are on 15 Mile Road because this is our neighborhood too. Ask us anything at the counter.
